Specialist trauma therapy using the Flash technique

An evidence-based approach to processing distressing memories without needing to recall or re-live them in detail.

ANTHONY HALL
Music Psychotherapist Fellow AMI

Anthony Hall offers specialist trauma therapy for people who need support with distressing feelings or intrusive memories that may be linked to past experiences. The Flash technique is an evidence-based approach that allows difficult experiences to be processed without needing to talk them through in detail. This can be particularly helpful when memories feel stuck, overwhelming, or continue to affect your day-to-day life.

About

The Flash Technique is an evidence-based approach originally developed as a preparation for EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). It has since become a recognised therapeutic intervention in its own right.A key feature of the Flash Technique is that it does not require you to talk in detail about a traumatic event or difficult memory. Instead, the process uses brief eye blinks, gentle bilateral stimulation and positive memory recall to help the brain safely process disturbing experiences.Any past experience that continues to affect you and which can feel difficult to let go of, may be considered traumatic. This may involve something you lived through directly, or something you witnessed. When aspects of a memory become ‘stuck’, people may notice repeated thoughts, avoidance, changes in sleep, overthinking, or strong emotional responses to everyday situations. As an HCPC Registered Music Therapist, I may also draw on elements of music and art therapy, where appropriate, alongside the Flash technique to support the therapeutic process.

Testimonials

Kylie came to me having had a very traumatic time in hospital when very young – she was frightened of any medical appointment and wanted to try out the Flash Technique to see if it could help. This is what she said after having two sessions:

Anthony has truly transformed my life, giving me the confidence to advocate for myself and finally feel like an adult. Having struggled with poor mental health for as long as I can remember, I’ve tried countless techniques over the years—often at great expense—but none have been as quick, simple, or gentle as flash therapy. To my surprise, the sessions even felt enjoyable at times; I found myself laughing and smiling in ways I never had during other therapies. The flash technique is straightforward: you focus on something you love while gently tapping alternate sides of your body, and occasionally Anthony guides you to blink rapidly. What makes it so powerful is that you don’t have to confront your trauma directly—something I’ve always found overwhelming. Instead, the process feels safe, approachable, and effective.I am deeply grateful to Anthony for helping me achieve so much in such a short time. His support and this technique have given me a new sense of hope and empowerment.
